As a 50-something woman working long hours in a “big” job, most of my waking hours were spent at a desk, on a computer. On weekends I was working around the house to keep the wheels greased at home and keep my family functioning. Five years ago, I started one of your beginners’ classes, mainly to improve my flexibility and movement as I continued to age. I found the classes welcoming, with teachers who met me where I was (an unfit, overweight, stressed-out working mum who’d never done yoga). I enjoyed the initial beginners’ class so much that I continued to explore other types of classes and teachers to determine what worked best for me. Five years on, I’m missing the mat if I’m not doing a few classes a week.
CYS has helped me with my goals of flexibility and movement, but also helped me in other aspects I initially thought were less important: improving my ability to be calm and present, which has helped me appreciate my life and family and friends and has helped me manage stress.
