Nicki teaches Restorative and Vinyasa Hatha
I love the feeling of openness and fluidity of my body.
The softness after savasana.
The feeling of belonging.
The feeling of resilience and renewal that it brings to me.
The balance and wholistic nature of the sequences.
How Yoga sits gracefully within a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
I love its meditative practise focusing on the synchronicity of breath and movement. The dance that weaves body, breath and spirit. How it stills the mind and calms the body.
Yoga to me means connection within my own being and with others. This is why building community is so important to me.
I look forward to continued learning along my yoga path. I may delve into other specialist group yoga teaching such as older populations, prenatal and chanting. I would also like to offer yoga and meditation for adolescents and young adults.
When I move into retirement I look forward to having more teaching and personal practice time for yoga.
TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
My yoga origins are in Sydney about 30 years ago where I attended the classes of Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss at their Newtown studio in the 90s, now Yoga Synergy. This was such an inspirational part of my life that it took me some time to reconnect with a yoga community after moving to Canberra.
Through a series of events I was reunited with my origins, and rekindled my passion for yoga that sparked a flame to teach.
After completing a chair yoga instruction certificate I began to teach and decided to further my study in teaching.
I graduated in June 2017 from Heather Agnew’s Trinity Vinyasa Flow Yoga Teacher Training, completed a Certificate in Post Graduate Chair Yoga Professional Development with Yoga Enlightenment delivered by Robyn Lewis who showed me the possibilities of yoga for everybody, and Yin Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher Training with Sarah Owen.
Pippa Matthews brought me back home and connected me to my Yoga Synergy origins.
Katie Welsh opened my yogic eyes to all things restorative and spiritual.
Together with these foundation qualifications I have completed certificates in Nutrition, Wellness Coaching, Reiki Level 1, Meditation Teaching and Holistic Development, and Holistic Counselling.
I enjoy theming my classes and try to provide an element of variety to a familiar structure. A sprinkle of surprise. Also to reflect and connect to things happening around us at the time. Perhaps celestial events, the seasons, an energetic pathway.
My purpose is to provide the opportunity for those who wouldn’t usually do yoga to do yoga. I aim to offer yoga to people who’d like to come back to their practice or want to establish a new friendship with yoga.
I hope to unravel some of the myths of yoga while maintaining its mystique. Empowering people to have confidence in their bodies to carry them through life one moment at a time. To share yoga tools to use in daily life.
