– New Classes
– March is Men’s Month.
– Wednesday Night Workshops.

February is upon us and its been a very busy start to the year. That feeling that the holidays are very much over sets in and we get stuck into the many tasks of life. Often we can begin the year with great enthusiasm, dive into our work, hobbies and family life, but it can very quickly feel like we are being swamped by the speed of life and magnitude of goals we have set. We can be overwhelmed by the many directions we are seemingly being pulled in, giving time to things we feel obliged to undertake and neglecting those things most important to us.

This ever present predicament provides us with great opportunity for growth. Do we allow ourselves to stay chasing our tails or do we stop, breath and listen to our inner voice.
Can we say no? Can we slow down and know that all will come good if we take our time and prioritise that which is most important to us.

If we listen deeply and allow our practices to open our minds and hearts, not just our physical bodies then the answers and the paths will show themselves. If we can be kind to ourselves as well as others, interact with compassion and understanding for our sameness, rather than our differences, then perhaps we can have greater control of what feels out of control. Or better yet, let go of the need to control at all and just allow the unfolding with our best efforts, love and compassion to guide us.

All in good time and plenty of time for us all.

New Classes

In the spirit of giving my all, biting off more than I can chew and starting the year with enthusiasm we now have 4 new open classes on our timetable.

Jacqui is teaching an Iyengar class on Tuesday morning 7:30 – 8:45am. Some of you have already been attending, which is wonderful to see. Book in here

We have a dedicated Yin class with Lorelle starting this Saturday afternoon at 5:30 – 6:30pm.

This is another great weekend opportunity to slow things right down and cleanse through the practice of Yin, balance Meridians, provide overall health for your joints, increase flexibility and quiet the mind. Yin is an especially good practice for those lacking joint mobility and range of motion The long holds relax connective tissue and release joint tension.

Fiona has a Knoff Yoga class on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 – 5:45pm.

The Knoff approach provides students with a good foundation for learning all aspects of yoga. Since practicing Knoff, Fiona feels physically and mentally stronger and more energised – “Who doesn’t want that? I can definitely see and feel the difference in my practice as it provides me with the tools to work intelligently with my body”.
Students will hopefully experience the same thing. The classes are designed to:
•ensure a balanced practice with useful tips for students to deepen their practice,
•allow time for students to explore poses and how it feels when movement is synchronised with their breath.
Knoff is highly productive mindful practice which is beneficial for students who want to be strong, flexible and energised. Book in here

Last but not least welcoming our new teacher Jill Farrelly to the CYS team for Classical Yoga on Wednesday morning 7:45 – 9:00am.

Jill has been practicing yoga for 24 years and teaching on a part-time basis for around 13 years. She has a diploma of Yoga Teaching from the IYTA and is currently studying with Mark Gibson towards Iyengar certification. She has been fortunate to work with inspiring teachers in Australia and overseas. Jill regularly attends workshops and intensives in Australia and attends the Ramamani Memorial Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune every two years.

Jill’s Classical Yoga draws on ancient texts including the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali, written some time before 400 BC. Classical yoga draws on the yoga philosophy, as well as giving practical guidance with balanced classes across a 4 week cycle.  With the regular practice of Yoga, students can increase strength, flexibility and mental clarity. Book in here

Our open timetable is jam packed with opportunity to explore your practice, your body and your mind. Beginners are encouraged to try these classes, move into open classes and experience all the studio has to offer. Our Direct debit system makes classes extremely affordable. Investing in your yoga practice is an investment in your health and wellbeing for life.

March Is Men’s Month

CYS is dedicated to nurturing ones soul and providing a space for everyone to explore their physical practice and connect more deeply to their inner nature. With this spirit in mind we are hosting March Is Men’s Month.
Its not hard to notice that our classes are filled mostly by women but men can greatly benefit from these practices as well. We invite you to bring your partner or a male friend to class for free during the month of March. They can try the class out and see how they feel.

All our teachers are well equipped to look after the needs of total beginners within every open class, so there is no need for novice students to feel apprehensive or otherwise intimidated by something new. Should they enjoy the experience they are welcome to purchase the $20 New Student Pass or perhaps consider the Beginners Course.
It’s a great opportunity to share and enjoy Yoga together, to connect, revitalise, learn some things new and move.

Our very first Wednesday Night Workshop will be held on the 20th March with a workshop for men hosted by Gregory Barnes.

Yoga for the Modern Man; a workshop full of activities with direct application to living as a man in the modern world.

Students will benefit from increased strength, flexibility and range of motion, decrease stress and foster connection. This will be a wonderful opportunity our CYS men to get together and connect.

Book in here Be sure select the date of the workshop you wish to attend.

Wednesday Night Workshops

I am very excited to announce another new addition to our timetable with Wednesday Night Workshops. They will be a series of different workshops, led by our wonderful teachers and guest teachers. We will not be holding them every Wednesday night, but will be advertising them as they are happening. Topics will range through all things Yoga; Asana, Posture and Alignment, Philosophy and Yoga Teachings, Pranayama, Meditation, Kirtan and so much more. If you would like to deepen your practice, expand your knowledge of all that yoga has to offer or simple spend time with likeminded people, then these workshops will be a great resource for you. As mentioned above we are setting the ball rolling with Gregory’s Yoga for the Modern Man. Followed by a 3-part series with Elena on Posture; Correction, Pain Reduction and Weightless. These 3 sessions will be held on The first Wednesday of April, May and June.
All Wednesday Night Workshops will be held at 7:45 – 9:45pm and Cost $40, they are not included in the direct debit system. Our teachers work very hard to prepare and deliver every class, workshops take twice as much of their energy and then some. I have no doubt that these workshops will enrich all our lives, expand our understanding and help create a stronger CYS community.

If you have a reflect or would like to share your thoughts/journey in our newsletter please email me at eli@canberrayogaspace.com.au.
